![]() ![]() ![]() She added two things: “Italian” and “bread”. “Hey Siri, add Italian bread to grocery list.” Literally the first thing I tried to add when testing this (just with a list in the native Reminders app, not AnyList): The second, and bigger, problem: Siri seems to treat a 2+ word item as two (or three, or four) separate list items. If adding every item was a two step process it would be incredibly annoying. We yell at Alexa as we have our heads down in the pantry or the fridge, and it’s pretty quick to add a number of things by voice. You may think that doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it absolutely is. It’s really clumsy compared to what we’ve been doing for 5+ years with Alexa, “Alexa, add butter to the grocery list.” Boom, done, it winds up in the AnyList app. You can make a shortcut, but since Siri can’t parse things out of the middle of a shortcut phrase, it has to be two steps: first, you say “Hey Siri, add to grocery list” (or whatever you want your shortcut phrase to be), then she’ll prompt you, then you say what you want to add, then she responds to confirm. And Siri fails hard on the first one: adding things to a grocery list.įirst, there’s no way to make adding to the AnyList app directly a one-step process. If I can’t make it do those things, the WAF will be low and this cutover will fail. Adding things to our grocery list in AnyList. We have three main use cases that we use voice assistant/smart speakers for: ![]() We have a half dozen Echo devices, but I don’t like Amazon’s constant attempts to upsell me things (not to mention what they’re probably doing with my data), so I would like to switch them out for HomePods, thus completing our melding with the Borg collective Apple ecosystem. Macs, iPhones, iPads, Watches, CarPlay, Apple TVs, and Apple One subscription.the one thing we don’t use Apple for is smart speakers, partly because we got started with Alexa before HomePods existed. We’re pretty much all in on the Apple ecosystem we spend a lot of money with Apple and by and large everything works great. I beg you to point out why I’m wrong so I can buy HomePods. 10 years in, it can’t handle basic stuff elegantly, like adding to a grocery list. I used to think that too, figuring people just weren’t used to it. Yeah yeah, “Another Siri is stupid” post, you think. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
